The story
Grassroots Garden CIC began a few years ago in response to rising food insecurity, a disconnected industrial food system, and a belief that communities can and should grow their own food. We’re not interested in waiting for things to get better. We’re building the alternative, right here in Redruth.
Who we are
Grassroots Garden CIC exists to build a more resilient, regenerative and locally rooted food system in Cornwall. What started as one grower’s determination has become a shared community effort: producing fresh local food through our CSA, creating opportunities to learn practical growing skills, and showing that small-scale agriculture can strengthen both land and community.
Today, Grassroots Garden is supported by dedicated directors — including two who are also CSA members — and by a volunteer community whose energy, loyalty and hard work have carried the project forward for years.
About Dan
Grassroots Garden was founded by Dan Sargison, a climate activist turned grower who decided the most useful thing he could do was stop shouting for change and start making it. Dan has been growing and studying local food systems for fifteen years — driven by a deep interest in seeds, soil resilience and what it actually takes to feed a community well.

Ecological health and human wellbeing belong to the same story.
Build resilience from the ground up.
We strengthen local food security, confidence and capacity in practical ways.
Keep it human-scale.
Local, relational, grounded in care.
Our funders
We are grateful to the National Lottery Community Fund for the Grow Together project — a polytunnel, workshops, and part-time paid roles. And to Cornwall Neighbourhoods for Change (CN4C) for early guidance and support.
